This print is one of the Hiroshige's latest popular series, "One Hundred Views of Edo". Most of the prints in this series were depicted the scenes inside of Edo, current Tokyo. However this location is set outside of Tokyo, current Chiba prefecture where was well known as the scenic area of autumn colors of maple trees. Hiroshige boldly captured the view of Mt. Tsukuba in far back from in between of thick maple tree's branches. What an adventurous composition Hiroshige took! He also purposely used subdued yellow for the maple leaves, but on the other hand he used the vivid red or dark blue for the objects in the back, which magically let the color of maple leaves stand out. We can see Hiroshige's high skill of composition and usage of colors in this peaceful landscape. >>Details

This print has everything of autumn such as autumn plants, descending geese and reddish purple sky like autumn dusk. The sweetest part of this print is that beautifully decorated Mt. Fuji in white is sitting in the back lead by the winding path with beautiful autumn motifs. >>Details
