The Ukiyo-e is printed on Echizen kizuki hosho washi (a unique kind of Japanese paper) handmade by Ichibei Iwano, a living national treasure. This makes the vivid colors and the soft, warm textures of woodcut prints come to life.
This print is one of Hokusai's most successful series, “Thirty-six Views of Mt. Fuji” and called Aizuri-e which means printed only in shades of blue. The series has 46 prints and the first 36 have the outline printed in dark blue instead of black. This print also has the blue outline and Aizuri with a hint of pale pink which enhances the mystical atmosphere. Hokusai drew 7 cranes with large Mt. Fuji which are lucky items in Japan.
