Bright Snow at Kameyama
The Ukiyo-e is printed on Echizen kizuki hosho washi (a unique kind of Japanese paper) handmade by Ichibei Iwano, a living national treasure. This makes the vivid colors and the soft, warm textures of woodcut prints come to life.
The steep hillside sweeps up to the right, with tall pines, and a castle above. A procession is shown climbing up to the castle. Below, at the left, is a village. The rose-colored glow on the horizon suggests an early morning under a clear sky after a heavy snowfall. This is another masterpiece of the Tokaido series.
